With over 25 years of experience in a range of settings, our Titled Musculoskeletal and Sports Physio Nicky draws upon high level skills and knowledge when treating patients for a range of musculoskeletal and sports conditions.
After graduating from the University of Queensland (UQ) in 1991 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy with Honours, Nicky completed her post graduate Masters qualifications in both Musculoskeletal (2004) and Sports Physiotherapy (2005). From then on, her clinical experience has been predominantly in private practice within Australia, however, she has worked in a range of other settings, including:
- Orthopaedic and neurological rehabilitation and private practice for 8 years in the US
- Physiotherapy in Queensland’s Public Health Care System
- Clinical Educator for final year physiotherapy students at UQ
- Practical tutor/examiner for 1st and 2nd year undergraduate students at Australian Catholic University
- Treating Clinician in a number of Queensland University Clinical Research Trials – carpal tunnel syndrome, lateral epicondylalgia (tennis elbow), whiplash associated disorders and patellofemoral pain (knee pain)
These contexts have allowed to her gain extensive experience and in-depth knowledge around the treatment and diagnosis of a range of musculoskeletal conditions.
Nicky’s combined experiences as a high level athlete and Titled Sports physiotherapist have provided her with a special understanding of the needs of athletes, particularly in relation to training, management of injuries and early intervention. As a Women’s A grade road cyclist, she competes in events both nationally and internationally, placing 2nd in the 2016 World Masters Road Championships and top of her Master’s age division on two occasions:
- - National Champion for Road Cycling in –2015, 2016, 2017
- - National Champion for Criterium –2016, 2017
Her specialised skills as a physio have been put to use in a number of high level sports organisations and events, including the Alice Springs Masters Games, Tennis Australia, X-fit Games, Qld and National Judo, Australian Women’s Handball Tea and the Qld Touch Football Championships- 2nd place at the World Masters Road Championships – 2016
